Edgar Peña

Bio

My name is Edgar Peña and I am currently a painting senior (BFA) at the San Francisco Art Institute. My last exhibition (group show in May 2007) was a private video screening at Asphodel Studios (Recombinant Media Labs), San Francisco, in a 40' x 26' x 15,' 10 channel High Definition, 16.8 acoustic surround environment.

Statement

I was thinking about some type of metaphorical and realistic observation of technology and nature. Then, I focused on different perspectives of transportation: black holes and foreign trade. In “The Einstein-Rosen bridge of Trading,” both are ironically linked to a fantasy and realist idea through placing an object to some goal or end (a black hole, or Einstein-Rosen bridge, becomes a symbol of theoretical physics, while foreign trade being a metaphor of current American consumer culture). What can be considered a beneficial idea in nature? How do we consider one as fiction and/or the other realistic? What makes human beings capable of understanding either?
