Esther Y. Weng

Bio

Esther Y. Weng graduated in May from the San Francisco Art Institute with a BFA in Film and Painting. Recently, her work has been shown in the Madcat International Women's Film Festival and the Antimatter Film Festival in Victoria, B.C. She plans to continue her studies in Film and Video in the near future.

Statement

We as human beings categorize and divide ourselves into groups not only in attempts to separate ourselves, but also to identify ourselves with others. What happens when someone discovers that there's a need to make categories within him/herself? Within Countries there are race divides, and within race ethnic divides, and so on. Those with mixed heritage and nationality, and those who grew up in more than one home and place face can a divide within themselves. In the rapidly growing global society, transculturation happens more often than we may notice. Ours is a portrait that will always be incomplete, and ever transforming.
