Statement
“Healing of K.” is an 11 minute video with content based on a box of found cassettes of what appears to be a healer/color therapist's taped sessions with a patient named “Kaye” from 1977-1980. In this video, Kaye has become K., as in Kafka's K. or “everyman”; and the audio has been assembled as to address a new audience. I hope the viewer struggles with feelings of ironic skepticism at the somewhat cheesy, soothing, even cult-like intonations of the speaker, and later in the piece, with the opposite feelings of reflexive physical response to matched color and aural intonations. Armed with the knowledge that this piece is based on actual candid sessions, I hope to explore what drives the “doctor/patient”, “cult/initiate”, even “media/consumer” relationship.
